Magnetic Paint is a specialist paint that contains magnetite, a form of metal powder that once painted onto a surface like a wall or any smooth surface, it will attract magnets.
How magnetic is magnetic paint?
Smarter Surfaces Magnetic wall paint contains 55% magnetite. The paint can support 4+ A4 sheets per small magnet when applied properly. The magnetic strength increases with each additional coat or the size/number of magnets.
Can you paint over magnetic paint?
Yes, you can paint over magnetic paint with standard paint, whiteboard paint, or chalkboard paint once it's fully dried. This allows you to create dual-function surfaces.
Is there clear magnetic paint available?
No. Magnetic paint is only available in black due to its magnetic particle content. However, you can easily change the appearance by painting over it with your preferred colour.Â
For best results, apply a white, water-based primer before adding your chosen colour. You can also cover the surface with lightweight wallpaper or graphic stickers. Keep in mind that thicker topcoats may reduce magnetic strength. For heavier items, such as digital prints or fabrics, we recommend using Super Magnetic Paint or Magnetic Plaster, which contain higher levels of magnetite for stronger performance.
Are there various sizes available?
Magnetic wall paint comes in two sizes: 32 sq ft and 107 sq ft tins.
What colour is magnetic paint?
The magnetic paint is always black in colour. You can apply a coat of any standard paint over it to change the colour of your surface.

How to thin out thick magnetic wall paint?
In most cases, your magnetic paint should not need to be thinned. But sometimes, from time to time, during transportation, the magnetic paint can settle. So stir it first and then if you need to thin the paint add 5 - 10% water to the tin and stir in thoroughly.
How many coats of magnetic paint should be applied?
At Smarter Surfaces, we recommend 3 coats of Magnetic Wall Paint. You can apply extra coats to increase the magnetic performance (no more than 7). Make sure to stir the magnetic paint before use.
How To Use Magnetic Paint?
Magnetic surfaces are typically used for planning, scheduling, posting, brainstorming, magnetic notice boards, magnetic walls plus lots more.
What kind of magnets can be used with Magnetic Wall Paint?Â
Neodymium magnets or rare-earth magnets are recommended for the strongest grip on Magnetic Wall Paint.

With three layers or coats of magnetic paint the liquid metal builds up to become a surface that is highly attractive to magnets almost like a metal sheet. Magnets will bond to the surface.
Does magnetic paint work on wood?
Yes, it works on wood. Just make sure the surface is smooth before application; fill any gaps, then apply Magnetic Paint, followed by primer and whiteboard paint. Lightly sand between each coat of paint and primer.
Does magnetic wall paint have an impact on WIFI signals?
No, WIFI operates normally even when in proximity to our magnetic paints and plasters.
Does magnetic paint influence pacemakers?
No, the magnetic field generated by this type of paint is insufficient to disrupt the regular operation of pacemakers or other medical devices. Pacemakers are built to be highly resistant to typical environmental factors, including magnetic fields.
