Customer Testimonials

Discover how schools, offices, and homes use paint solutions to create non-reflective whiteboard surfaces that improve productivity and communication.

The whiteboard wall paint was extremely easy to apply

The whiteboard wall paint was extremely easy to apply – and the customer service was accessible and helpful so I was delighted to give a review for this whiteboard paint and company! As a teacher you try to present as many different ways as possible to teach a concept and having the extra large dry erase wall helped us to teach concepts, facilitate games and student bonding and write instructions. We have no problem erasing everything with a multi purpose sponge eraser! It has been a HUGE learning tool for our classroom and we are forever grateful.

Turning Complex Workflows into Clear Action

At any one time I work on 8-10 initiatives and your dry erase marker paint has enabled me to better visualize what I need to do. It’s useful for brainstorming and process evaluation, so much so that we’ve recently purchased it for our marketing department. It’s a great fit for our company and a 5 start review for whiteboard paint.

This paint is also advantageous for projection use, particularly with short-throw projectors.

This combination allows you to write on the surface while also using magnets.

Application & Usage

What roller is best to paint Matte Whiteboard Paint with?

Each kit includes a roller designed for use with Matte Whiteboard Paint. For optimal results, apply the paint using a mohair or lint-free short pile roller sleeve. If using a mohair roller, make sure to remove any loose fibers beforehand.

Yes. To achieve a whiteboard look on glass, first apply Smarter Surfaces Primer. For a transparent finish, simply apply Matte Whiteboard Paint Clear on the glass, or for a classic whiteboard effect, use Matte Finish Whiteboard Paint.

Can you apply matte dry erase paint on wood?

Yes. Make sure the wood surface is smooth before applying the matte dry erase board paint. Fill any imperfections with a filler. Apply White Primer prior to the Matte Whiteboard Paint White (or apply Clear Primer before the Matte Whiteboard Paint Clear). Sand the surface after each primer coat and reapply as necessary.

Matte Whiteboard Paint is a suitable option for repairing most whiteboards. It can be directly applied to existing whiteboards after using White Primer (note that primer is essential before applying Matte Whiteboard Paint); just make sure all marker residue is eliminated. Old whiteboards and chalkboards can also be restored using the self adhesive whiteboard film.

What type of heater can expedite the primer's drying time? Is an infrared lamp suitable?

A regular fan heater can be used to accelerate the drying time. An infrared lamp can also be used, but it should not be positioned too close to the surface.

Can Matte Whiteboard Paint be applied in the presence of people?

Yes, it is safe to apply dry erase paint in the presence of both adults and children, as it is certified to have extremely low VOC and low odour levels. Matte Whiteboard Paint is free from isocyanates, ensuring it is safe for use around individuals.

Surface Prep & Priming

Is Matte Whiteboard Paint suitable for any surface?

Matte Whiteboard Paint can be used on nearly any smooth surface (glass, metal, concrete, wood, etc.)

If applying Matte Whiteboard Paint - White, it’s crucial to first prime the surface with White Primer or a high-quality water-based white primer. For optimal results, apply Matte Whiteboard Paint White over a white surface.

Why is it important to use primer before Matte Whiteboard Paint?

A primer provides a smoother finish to a surface, seals it, and creates a white base colour. This ensures that when Matte Whiteboard Paint is applied to a primed surface, the paint's properties remain on the wall rather than being absorbed. Using a primer or sealer results in a smoother surface, enhancing the write-on/wipe-off functionality.

Cleaning & Maintenance

How to remove paint from my skin?

You can remove Matte Whiteboard Paint from skin in two ways. The first method is to create a mixture of salt and warm water to rinse your hands. The second option is using a commercial product known as sand soap, available at auto parts stores.

What to do if paint spills?

You can clean up Matte Whiteboard Paint spills with an Xylene-based cleaner, which is readily available at DIY or automobile supply stores. However, this cleaner is not suitable for skin removal.

Why are there large marks or ‘shadows’ on my whiteboard surface, and how can I fix them?

Large marks or shadowing are usually caused by overextending the paint beyond its recommended coverage or not following the application guidelines correctly. Matte Whiteboard Paint must be applied within the specified coverage area to ensure an even finish. To fix this, use a Permanent Ink Remover on the affected areas. This should only be used occasionally, not as part of regular cleaning. If you need further assistance, please send a photo of the area in question along with your order number and total surface size (in square meters) to support@smartersurfaces.ca.

Is alcohol good for cleaning the Matte Whiteboard Paint surface?

Regular use of alcohol on Matte Whiteboard Paint may compromise the integrity of the surface and diminish its performance. The specially formulated cleaning products are designed to yield the best cleaning results while preserving the quality of your surface.

Can I use permanent markers?

You cannot use permanent markers. Like a standard whiteboard, Matte Whiteboard Paint does not work with permanent markers. If you accidentally use permanent markers on the Matte Whiteboard Paint, we recommend using our Permanent Ink Remover to clean it off.

How to get rid of permanent markers?

One possible method is to write over the marker with a whiteboard marker. This will reactivate the ink, making it simpler to erase. After waiting two minutes, wipe it clean. If this method does not succeed, consider using Permanent Ink Remover which is available in Smarter Surfaces online store. This cleaner is formulated to eliminate permanent marker, tough stains, and ghosting from whiteboards and surfaces painted with Matte Whiteboard Paint.

Functionality & Performance

Will the walls turn yellow in the sunlight?

No, Matte Whiteboard Paint is highly resistant to UV light, which means it will not yellow.

What dry erase markers can be used with Matte Whiteboard Paint?

Any standard dry erase markers can be used. We suggest using a microfiber eraser cloth for effective erasing.

Can I project onto the Matte Whiteboard Paint with a projector?

Matte Whiteboard Paint is compatible with short throw and ultra short throw projectors, including interactive versions of these projectors. For high projection performance, we suggest looking into Smarter Surfaces complete collection of projection paints.
